Apple Picking at Gizdich Ranch

When you think of fall, do you think of apple picking? Because I do! We recently went apple picking at Gizdich Ranch and it was so much fun! I’m now fully in the fall mood – if only the weather would start to cooperate! Although it was really warm on this day, I had to break out one of my favorite simple outfits for fall!

What I Wore

Camel is one of my all time favorite colors for fall (along with burgundy and olive, of course!)! Every year, I purchase a new camel cardigan and it quickly becomes a staple piece in my wardrobe for the fall season. This year, I picked up this knit camel cardigan from Abercrombie. I’ve already worn it multiple times – it looks nice with jeans, but I also love it paired with skirts (this suede skirt is my current fave!). This cardigan is mostly sold out, so here are a few other options from Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom, and Old Navy (here and here). Another camel piece that I think is a wardrobe staple, is a great camel blazer! This blazer from J. Crew Factory is a great option (and it comes in petite sizes!).

With the camel cardigan, I wore a simple white scoopneck bodysuit from Abercrombie. I recently got into the bodysuit trend, and I am loving them! They’re so great to tuck into jeans and skirts – they stay put and don’t create any bulges from loose fabric. My high-waisted jeans are also from Abercrombie (can you tell I’m a huge fan of their clothing?). They come up really high, which I personally love! They come in several other colors too.

Riding boots are another great fall wardrobe staple! I purchased these brown riding boots many years ago and have gotten so much wear out of them! I love riding boots paired with jeans, skirts, and dresses – they go with everything! As mine are several years old, I’m linking a few similar styles at various price points: three from DSW (here, here, here) and two from Macy’s (here and here).

Apple Picking at Gizdich Ranch

Gizdich Ranch is located in the Watsonville area and is famous for its u-pick fruit and delicious pies! We arrived around 10:30am and it was already very crowded. We were able to find some areas in the orchard that were less picked over and picked a basket-full of fresh apples to make apple pies and other baked goods! I would recommend going right at opening time or later in the day – when we were leaving around 2pm, there were hardly any people in the apple orchards.

After apple picking, we picked up a few of their picnic lunches to enjoy at the picnic tables. The highlight was the apple slushy – so refreshing on a hot fall day! We also had to grab one of their famous pies to take home – we opted for the apple to do a taste test! You can purchase their pies by the slice too to enjoy at the ranch!

Note: Gizdich’s apple picking season only lasts a few weeks (est. about 3 weeks!), so make sure you plan ahead! I’ve also heard great things about Apple-A-Day Ratzlaff Ranch (located in Sebastapol) and Apple Hill, which is near Sacramento!

Homemade Apple Pie

When we got home, we immediately started baking a homemade apple pie! It was our first time ever making a pie, but it was actually pretty easy to do and it was delicious (we followed this recipe)! Seriously, it got rave reviews! Much to my surprise, we honestly liked our homemade version more than the one from Gizdich (although theirs was really good too!).

Have you been apple picking? If you live in the Bay Area, I highly recommend apple picking at Gizdich Ranch! We had so much fun!
