A Day in Pacific Grove

Pacific Grove is a beautiful coastal city close to Monterey and Carmel that is a great spot to spend an afternoon or a weekend. I recently visited Pacific Grove while visiting Pebble Beach over the holidays. As we had a lot planned on this trip, we were only able to spend a day in Pacific Grove, so we had to make the most of it! Here are my recommendations for how to spend a day in Pacific Grove.

When you arrive in Pacific Grove, your first stop might be to grab brunch or lunch. There are many restaurants located in the downtown area, so you can walk around and see what looks good. My personal favorite is Peppers Mexicali Cafe. It’s a casual Mexican restaurant that is perfect for lunch. The restaurants in Pacific Grove can get pretty crowded on the weekend as it is a popular destination, but you shouldn’t have to wait too long, if at all. On this day, we were able to walk right in!

After lunch, head over to Lover’s Point Beach to relax for a bit. Then, walk off your food coma by walking along the coastal path. The views are beautiful and if you continue on the path, you can walk all the way to Asilomar Beach, if you like. That walk is about 3 miles and will take you about an hour to complete (one way). You can also drive over the Asilomar and spend the afternoon.

Alternatively, you can walk from Pacific Grove to Cannery Row in Monterey, which is only a 30 minute walk. Here you can visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium (definitely worth a visit!) and check out the many restaurants and shops.

On this day, I wore this sherpa zip up jacket that I recently got from Old Navy. It’s really comfortable and surprisingly warm given that it’s pretty thin. I purchased the wine color, but it also comes in white. I’m sure it will be a staple in my closet this season! It’s currently on sale for $25 and comes in regular, tall, and petite sizes. I purchased the Petite XS and would recommend sizing down. I paired the jacket with a mockneck sweater for additional warmth, these Hollister jeggings, and my favorite black Nike’s for comfort.

If you’re visiting Carmel or Monterey, you should definitely stop by Pacific Grove! Even if you only have a few hours to spend, it is a lovely place to walk around and take in the coastal views. The highlights are Lover’s Point and Asilomar Beach! For inspiration on other things to do in the area, check out this post on how to spend a weekend in Carmel and Pebble Beach.
